Tulsi’s Bliss

(in loving memory of our brother David Newman)

April 18, 2024: A truly exquisite heart departed this world on this morning …

In the midst of tears for our sweet brother David Newman’s passing, our hearts are swept up in the endless ocean of Maharajji’s love and rivers of gratitude for the beautiful light David shared with us and countless others around the world.

And now, as David wrote so beautifully in his song “Stars,” a river has found its ocean.

When Heather and I first heard the news about David’s stroke and illness weeks ago, we were deeply shocked (as I’m sure many of you reading this were as well).

Heather dove deeply into David’s timeless lullaby Mahamantra “Tulsi’s Bliss,” and she had the intuition that we should record and share that gem with him to support him on this journey and perhaps bring some of that balm for the spirit back to our beloved brother.

So, along with our longtime band mate Sean, we recorded our adaptation and set it to a montage of photos from the absolutely unforgettable times we shared in the Himalayan foothills with David in 2017 and 2018.

We shared the video privately with him, Mira and his family, as well as a few other close friends, but now feels like the right time to share this more widely in hopes that it might bring some peace to your heart as we navigate the loss of our dearly beloved friend.

Fly free, sweet brother. Though we will miss your voice and physical presence immensely, the love you have shared with us all truly is eternal.

The soundtrack of this video features Shantala artists Benjy Wertheimer (vocals, esraj, guitar, keyboards) and Heather Wertheimer (vocals and guitar), joined by Sean Frenette on bass, electric guitar, and 3-string lead guitar. Studio engineering and production by Benjy Wertheimer at Wolf Cub Studios in Portland, OR.

David and Mira recorded their own beautiful version of “Tulsi’s Bliss” on their album Stars, and we hope you will listen to it, and all their lovely music. www.davidnewmanmusic.com
